Costume Party
Song: Costume Party
Artist: Jack Johnson
OK, so this may be a bit of a stretch but I think it's super clever, if I do say so myself! ππ Tis the season for costume parties, am I right? Besides, who doesn't like dressing up in a ridiculously clever, cool, creepy, sexy, whatever-floats-your-boat costume for Halloween?? It's the one day a year adults get to play dress up and make-believe and embrace their personalities and quirks. I for one, am a big fan! Plus, I heard Jack say that the idea for this song came when he was at a costume party and was noticing how by the end of the get together, people had taken their masks off, their make up started to drip a little, etc. Obviously the message of the song is a little more serious, but that's where the metaphor came from. I rest my case! π This is one of my favorite tracks from Jack's latest album! I was obsessed with it all summer long! And I was lucky enough to hear him play it LIVE last month!! It was magical! ✨ He's so ridiculously talented!! The very beginning almost sounds ghost-like! π» The sound was achieved by blowing into glass bottles (as I saw live onstage! So clever!!).
I want my mind back
This is a costume party
Everyone pointed their fingers
Everyone laughed already
But I still got the mask on
And all the makeup runs down your face
And you still got those shoes on
Burning circles all around the room
You don't know me, I don't know you
You don't know me, I don't know you
Oh my, my, my, my, my, my
Next time around I'll find my way and then my place
My footing on this climb
Oh my, my, my, my, my, my
Next time around I'll find my keys and then I'll be
On my way, I'll be just fine
I want my mind back
Sellers remorse already
It's such a fine line
Between the end and the beginning is long gone
Sending home letters hoping
To be back real soon
Wishing that you were here with me
Or maybe I was there with you, whatever
Oh my, my, my, my, my, my
Next time around I'll find my way and then my place
My footing on this climb
Oh my, my, my, my, my, my
Next time around I'll find my keys and then I'll be
On my way, I'll be just fine
I took it off, I hold it in my hand, why do I not let go?
And I keep one foot in the circle, damned if I do, damned if I don't
Oh no
Where did my head go?
I know nothing about it
I speak no evil
Only whisper and shout it
But I doubt you hear me
You don't know me, I don't know you
You don't know me, I don't know you
You don't know me, I don't know you
With the song mentioning costumes and masks...these two songs popped into my head and I'm sorry, but I have to share!! The complete diversity between these songs is hilarious but they all totally fit the theme of today's post!
Behind the Mask - Michael Jackson
A posthumously released song from 2010 but one I've only just discovered this year and it's super cool! MJ's first "official" shout-out this holiday season (but don't you worry, there's more coming! π)
Masquerade - From, The Phantom of the Opera
Does it get more Halloween then this!? Honestly, this song deserves it's own post and shout-out, but it fits in beautifully here.
Why So Silent
(It has to be included as it rounds out the scene)
