Jack Johnson Month Day 24

Song: Subplots
Artist: Jack Johnson, All The Light Above It Too

Happy Album Release Day!! 🌙🎧

Even though I'll be doing my official Meet the Moonlight Listening Party today, I decided to sneak in one more song so I could have each album represented 😊

Luckily, I have several posts dedicated to this album from back in October of 2017. (*Click all the highlighted words to see more!*) Wow. That was so long ago! I remember this album came out only a couple days after my birthday that year so I bought it as a belated gift to myself. I was in LOVE with it! Obsessed. It was always playing. Even though I consider Jack to be my "summer" music I felt it worked so beautifully that fall (perhaps thanks to the lyric in this song that says "summer don't turn to fall"). One fond memory I have associated with this album was during a very busy and somewhat stressful time in my life when I had a lot going on and I was driving back and forth a lot. Every time I got in the car, this album would play and I would feel calm and relaxed and find myself singing along. I specifically remember going to pick up the little girl I nannied for from school and as I was waiting, I had my windows rolled down, with this album playing looking at the gorgeous view of the world in all it's autumn glory! It was so calming and beautiful. The day was perfect, slightly overcast but still warm. Wow, I miss those days. They were so stressful and chaotic in the moment but I'd do it all over again if I could. The nostalgia is real.

This is the opening number and the title track of the album. It's awesome! The melody, the lyrics 🔥 and Jack's vocals are especially cool on this one; hits just right 👌

Well, how many subplots you got runnin' around your mind?
The Gordian knot must be cut through
Well, give me a red pen, I will simplify your story
Which part of yourself can you afford to lose?
If you show me your list, then I will show you mine
Let's kill off a character or two

All the light under the sun
And all the light above it too
Is gonna rise and shine
And all the light under the sun
And all the light above it too
It don't shine for you

Like the joy and the tear in your eye
Like the little star that could
Could you remember every mistake that you've made?
At least all the ones you should have made?
If you make it your wish, then I will make it mine
Try to make sense of who is who

And all the light under the sun
All the light above it too
Is gonna rise and shine
All the light under the sun
And all the light above it too

Still gonna shine on this world
Past it too
It won't stop
It don't shine just for you
Birds don't sing
Trees don't lose
Leaves don't change
Fall just for you
Shine just for you
Shine just for you
Shine just for you

And how many subplots you got swimmin' through that mind?
Scream for sympathy or sing the blues
Run from the shadows or relax in the shade
Which road you gonna choose?
We've all got places to be, we've all got things to do
We've all got this moment, it's ours to lose

And all the light under the sun
All the light above it too
(Summer don't turn to fall)
All the light under the sun
(It's not just for you)
And all the light above it too
(Summer don't turn to fall)
All the light under the sun
(It's not just for you)
And all the light above it too
(Summer don't turn to fall)
All the light under the sun
(It's not just for you)
And all the light above it too
Still gonna shine
