Obligatory Birthday Post to Me!

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY AND I'LL CRY IF I WANT TO!

Honestly, I haven't really felt one way or the other about this birthday. Usually, I dread my birthday (especially as I age and yet remain the same year after year with no change or progress). Last year I felt really optimistic and excited and positive about my birthday. I truly believed 26 would be some amazing, life changing year for me. It wasn't. Obviously. This year, my birthday kind of snuck up on me. There has been a lot going on the past several weeks so I never really had time to lament or get myself pumped or anything. It just .... happened. It's just ..... here. It's been a good day. I feel loved as usual and grateful for my family. But other than the fact that people are giving me gifts and we are eating cake and ice cream, it just feels like any other day. I honestly just feel numb towards any kind of feeling or emotion. It's weird and kind of sad. But, those two words could perfectly sum up the past 27 years of my life: weird and sad.

ANYWAY. I hate always being such a downer on a day that's supposed to be celebrated and happy!! I'm sorry. To make up for it, enjoy this fun song I picked from Stevie Wonder to celebrate my day! Happy Birthday to me!

Song: Happy Birthday To Ya*
Artist: Stevie Wonder

You know it doesn't make much sense
There ought to be a law against
Anyone who takes offense
At a day in your celebration
'Cause we all know in our minds
That there ought to be a time
That we can set aside
To show just how much we love you
And I'm sure you would agree
What could fit more perfectly
Than to have a world party on the day you came to be

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday

I just never understood
How a man who died for good
Could not have a day that would
Be set aside for his recognition
Because it should never be
Just because some cannot see
The dream as clear as he
that they should make it become an illusion
And we all know everything
That he stood for time will bring
For in peace our hearts will sing
Thanks to Martin Luther King

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday

Why has there never been a holiday
Where peace is celebrated
all throughout the world

The time is overdue
For people like me and you
Who know the way to truth
Is love and unity to all God's children
It should be a great event
And the whole day should be spent
In full remembrance
Of those who lived and died for the oneness of all people
So let us all begin
We know that love can win
Let it out don't hold it in
Sing it loud as you can

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Ooh yeah
Happy birthday

We know the key to unity of all people
Is in the dream that you had so long ago
That lives in all of the hearts of people
That believe in unity
We'll make the dream become a reality
I know we will
Because our hearts tell us so

*DISCLAIMER: I've never really heard this song before ..... the first time I heard mention of it was because of the video below ..... after reading through these lyrics it sounds like this is a song for Martin Luther King Jr? Oh well. I still like it and the chorus still applies to ME!

And now, since I feel a little awkward about dedicating that song to myself, here is another birthday dedication song from one of my most favorite human beings ever!!

Song: Hanson Family Birthday Song
Artist: Taylor Hanson

HOW FUN IS THIS!? Can you imagine having this sung to you on your birthday!? And I thought the "Happy Birthday" song was long! But, I think this is so adorable and fun! That Hanson family sounds like a good time!

I'm pretending he is singing this for me today :)

HAPPY 27TH BIRTHDAY!!!
HERE'S TO A HOPEFUL NEW YEAR!!
