We Only Come Out At Night & Halloween

Song(s): We Only Come Out At Night & Halloween
Artist(s): The Smashing Pumpkins & The Misfits

OK, no "therapy session" today, I promise! 😉

The next few days my posts will sound a little something like this "I saw the title of this song and decided to add it to my Halloween playlist because it sounded right" hahaha. I also have a few different songs all entitled "Halloween" that I will be including for the next couple of days so watch for those!

Decided to watch a HORROR film tonight....wait. Let me back up. This has nothing to do with my song choices btw, just fun, seasonal info 😁👽 I recently learned about this funny Halloween event that happened back in 1938 and since I'm too lazy to try to write it out in my own words....here's the Wikipedia summary:

"The War of the Worlds" was a Halloween episode of the radio series The Mercury Theatre on the Air directed and narrated by Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds (1898) that was performed and broadcast live at 8 pm ET on October 30, 1938. The episode is famous for inciting a panic by convincing some members of the listening audience that a Martian invasion was taking place, though the scale of panic is disputed, as the program had relatively few listeners.

Welles's "War of the Worlds" broadcast has become famous for convincing some of its listeners that a Martian invasion was actually taking place due to the "breaking news" style of storytelling employed in the first half of the show. The illusion of realism was supported by the Mercury Theatre on the Air's lack of commercial interruptions, which meant that the first break in the drama came after all of the alarming "news" reports had taken place. Popular legend holds that some of the radio audience may have been listening to The Chase and Sanborn Hour with Edgar Bergen on NBC and tuned in to "The War of the Worlds" during a musical interlude, thereby missing the clear introduction indicating that the show was a work of science fiction. Modern research suggests that this happened only in rare instances.

I thought it was a funny story so I looked up, found and listened to the radio broadcast on youtube. Then I decided I should watch the 1953 film adaptation because a) I'm too much of a baby to watch the re-make with Tom Cruise 😅 and b) I've had a bit of a "vintage Halloween" this year watching a bunch of "classic" Halloween films (so far I've watched The Invisible Man (1933) , Frankenstein (1931) , The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), several episodes of The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) and the original, black and white television series of the Addams Family (1964-1966)) so it felt fitting. And since I didn't get to watch it last night and it's crunch time before Halloween is here and there's still so much I want to watch....I woke up at 7 AM and watched it first thing in the morning! 🤣 My priorities man...

All of this to say, I have been in a "spooky alien" mood today after watching The Warof the Worlds this morning and then listening to Michael Jackson narrate the E.T. Storybook (#IYKYK). So my personal HORROR film of choice this evening was....E.T. 😂 I've written about my fear before...go read this post if you don't understand.

So, today was a successful Halloween movie day for me! Aliens are definitely something that scare me so it fits my vibe for these next four days! 👽😱

OK. I don't know why I thought I should share all of that...on to the music!

We only come out at night
We only come out at night
The days are much too bright
We only come out at night

And once again, you'll pretend to know me well, my friends
And once again, I'll pretend to know the way
Through the empty space, through the secret places
Of the heart

We only come out at night
We only come out at night
The days are much too bright
We only come out at night

I walk alone, I walk alone to find the way home
I'm on my own, I'm on my own to see the ways
That I can't help the days, you will make it home okay
I know you can, and you can

We only come out at night
We only come out at night
The days are much too bright
We only come out at night

And once again, no, you'll pretend to know that
That there's an end, that there's an end to this begin
It will help you sleep at night, it will make it seem that
Right is always right, alright?

We only come out at night
We only come out at night
The days are much too bright
We only come out at night

Well this song really likes Halloween! 🤣

Bonfires burning bright
Pumpkin faces in the night
I remember Halloween
Dead cats hanging from poles
Little dead are out in droves
I remember Halloween

Brown-leafed vertigo
Where skeletal life is known
I remember Halloween
This day, anything goes
Burning bodies hang from poles
I remember Halloween

Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween

Candy apples and razorblades
Little dead are soon in graves
I remember Halloween
This day, anything goes
Burning bodies hang from poles
I remember Halloween

Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween
Halloween

And for a little more random "this is what I'm doing because I'm nerdy and kinda weird" information from a total stranger online that you probably don't really care to know but I'm going to tell anyway....since tonight is chilly and there's a "sweet sour wind" a-blowin'; I thought the perfect way to end the night would be with THIS Halloween classic....😁😂💚

Halloween is Grinch Night!

BEWARE GOING OUT AT NIGHT THIS HALLOWEEN! 🎃💀👻
