Jack Johnson Month Day 7
Before we begin today's song post, I have to announce something of utmost importance....
HAPPY CHOCOLATE ICE-CREAM DAY!! 🍫🍦
According to my Every Day's A Holiday 2022 Calendar AND from a recent article I read, it's official! June 7th is for Chocolate Lovers! 🍫 Of course, I celebrated! 😜🥳 I enjoyed some Rocky Road (one of my top three most favorite ice-cream flavors of all time) and Brookie (chocolate ice-cream with brownie and cookie dough bites, YUM!). Hope everyone else was able to indulge!
OK, cue the music!
Song: The Horizon Has Been Defeated
Artist: Jack Johnson, On and On
This is such a "Jack Johnson song!" The message is deep and symbolic while the lyrics are simple, the tune is funky and catchy and the overall mood is...chill. I love it!
This album will always remind me of the early days of my Jack Johnson obsession. I had bought two of his albums and was continuing to explore his music (this was probably in 2011? 2012? Perhaps a little earlier, like 2010? Somewhere around there). I checked this CD out from my local library and listened to it multiple times! Wow. That should tell you not only how long ago it was that I was first getting introduced to all the music Jack had to offer (pre-streaming...not to mention this album alone is 19 years old itself! It came out in 2003!) but how his music has continued to stand the test of time! It's classic.
This song speaks to many different issues we face in the modern world. From pollution, to our obliviousness to the damage being done to our planet, materialism, and the rise of technology taking over almost every aspect of our lives. I wonder how he feels now? I know he's never stopped caring and is committed to improving the health of our earth. Another thing Jack and the great Hanson's have in common, they are doers and action takers!
The horizon has been defeated
By the pirates of the new age
Alien casinos
Well maybe it's just time to say
That things can go bad
And make you wanna run away
But as we grow older
The trouble just seems to... stay
Future complications
In the strings between the cans
But no prints can come from fingers
If machines become our hands
And then our feet become the wheels
And then the wheels become the cars
And then the rigs begin to drill
Until the drilling goes too far
Things can go bad
And make you wanna run away
But as we grow older
The horizon begins to fade, fade, fade
Fade away
Well, thingamajigsaw puzzles
Anger don't you step too close
'Cause people are lonely and only
Animals with fancy shoes
And hallelujah zig zag nothing
Misery is on the loose
'Cause people are lonely and only
Animals with too many tools
That can build all the junk that we sell
Ah, sometime man, make you wanna yell
That things can go bad
And make you wanna run away
But as we grow older
Horizon begins to fade... away
Fade away
Fade, fade, fade
Fade, fade, fade
