Grateful For Music Challenge Day 12
Song(s): Wait & State of Shock
We Can Change the World
Artist: The Jacksons (namely Jackie & Michael) feat. Mick Jagger
Most of my posts have felt rather heavy this month... I can't say I'm sorry. It's how my heart is feeling. And I share songs from my heart. But today, I thought I'd lighten things up by sharing two songs I discovered in August that have been my JAM!
I listened to the phenomenal Victory album by the Jacksons a few months ago for my very first time ever. It was the last album the brothers did together. Michael was already at super-star status having released Thriller a year before. What I loved most about this album is that each brother got a lead song. Michael was obviously the star and arguably the most talented of the bunch so he, naturally, had the most leads. But all the brothers are talented in their own right and it was fun to hear them each have their "moment." I can't quite remember if Jermaine is featured on this album... he had left the group several years before when they left Motown. Either way, the album is fan-freaking-tastic and I love it!!
The picture of this album though 😂 Lovin' the confidence boys!
I'm sharing my two favorite tracks because they are honestly tied, they are both so much fun!
Wait
This was Jackie's lead! I've always had a soft spot for the eldest brother of the Jackson 5. He towered over little Marlon & Michael being 18 when they were a mere 12 & 11 years old in the beginning of the groups fame. Jackie never really had a lead song or was ever the "front man" during all the years the Jackson 5 and then later The Jacksons were a group. He just quietly supported his brothers by adding his soft, sweet vocals in the background and dancing side-by-side Michael and Marlon. I just find it so sweet and humble that, as the oldest, he didn't begrudge one of his youngest brothers the spotlight. He wasn't "too cool" to be singing with his little brothers. He was always there. 😊 It's just so cute! He also always had such a shy, soft-spoken voice and demeanor to him.
So, needless to say, I was thrilled to hear Jackie take lead on such an upbeat, fun song! When I first listened to this song I was a little surprised. It sounded so different from everything I'd heard from the Jackson family before. Then I found out that members of the great band Toto wrote the song (I grew up on Toto - my dad was a big fan). No wonder I loved it so much! Also, fun fact, a member of the group Toto (sorry, I don't know their names!) wrote the melody and part of the chorus for another of my favorite Michael Jackson songs Human Nature!
As much as I love Jackie having his moment to shine in this song, and his vocals sound great by the way, when Michael comes in at minute 3:35... DANG MICHAEL!!! Takes my breath away and sends chills all over my body every time! SO FREAKING FANTASTIC! I always find myself repeating that section of the song! 💓
How come you tell me that we have to get away
But girl, you can't be found
We'll dine in Paris on the Champs Elysees
Whenever you come around
There's been a break down, break down
Don't change your mind on me
Just take a little time
You say the finer things
Are worth waiting for
Just give me some kinda sign, baby
I can't wait, wait for a hundred years
I can't hold back my tears any longer, longer
I can't wait, wait for a hundred years
I can't hold back my tears any longer, longer
Sometimes I think of all the moments that we share
I've been waiting for so long
You know it hurts me
Every time you run and hide
I look up and now you're gone
I've been put down, way down
There's no tomorrow for me
You can't let love just fade away, baby
I can't wait, wait for a hundred years
I can't hold back my tears any longer, longer
I can't wait, wait for a hundred years
I can't hold back my tears any longer
Girl, I've been longing for you deep inside
And I tell myself, baby, baby
If this love of ours will survive
Then let's take this chance together, together
Baby, you know
I just can't wait, wait for a hundred years
I just can't wait
I can't hold back my tears any longer, longer
I can't wait, wait for a hundred years
I can't hold back my tears any longer
Now hear, you pushed my heart around
Tore me up inside, made me feel so bad
You took away my pride
(My pride!!)
I can't wait, wait for a hundred years
I can't hold back my tears any longer
I can't hold back my tears
(Any longer)
I can't hold back my tears, baby
(Any longer)
I can't hold back my tears, darling
(Any longer)
I can hold back my tears, baby
(Any longer)
Any longer
I can't wait
I'm down on my knees, baby
Baby, baby, baby
Don't talk to me
Break down on my knees, baby
Must tell me
Can't help my soul
I can't help my soul, baby, baby
(Any longer)
Talk to me
(Any longer)
Break down on my knees, now baby
(Any longer)
(Any longer)
Can't wait
(Any longer)
I can't wait
I can't wait
I can't wait
Wait, baby
I can't wait no more, now baby
Break down on my knees
State of Shock feat. Mick Jagger
MICHAEL IS A FREAKING ROCK STAR!!! 🤩🙌 Michael's vocals BLOW ME AWAY on this rock track! Who knew he could sing like THAT!? OB-FREAKING-SESSED!! I read somewhere that Freddy Mercury (of Queen) was originally going to duet Mike on this song but it never happened. Someone posted the version with Freddy's voice on youtube (which I am of course, sharing below). I think both versions are AWESOME! I am so glad I discovered this seriously ROCKING AWESOME song! Michael is the G.O.A.T! THE KING! THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND! Don't even try to change my mind, because you WON'T! He was the BEST there ever was! There will never be another!! I miss him! ðŸ˜
Yeah, come on, baby
You gotta be mine
'Cause you're so fine
I like your style
It makes me wild
You take it to me good
You like it
Know you should
You get me on my knees
(Come on, baby)
Well, please, baby, please
Listen, she looks so great
Ev'rytime I see her face
She put me in a state
(A state of shock)
We're doin' it
Oh, ha, come on, baby
(Oh, come on, baby)
(Come on, let me in)
She put me on my knees
Please, baby, please
I know you like to tease
But please, baby, please
You take it to me good
You like it
Know you should
I love the way you walk
And talk, baby, talk
Listen, she looks so great
Ev'rytime I see her face
She put me in a state
(A state of shock)
She put me, oooh
(In a state of shock)
Now come over here
No, come over here
Oooh, talk, talk to me
(State of shock)
You know I really love you, baby
Want you I reall want you, mama
You got me paralyzed
(You got me paralyzed)
You got me catatonic
(You got me catatonic baby)
You got me supersonic
(You got me supersonic, baby)
You know I'm deep fried
(You know I'm deep fried)
Yeah, look what you've done to me
Look what you've done to me

Yeah, how you move
(A state of shock)
You know
I need mouth-to-mouth resuscitation
Come on, baby
You know I've really loved you, baby
(State of shock)
You know I really want you, mama
Yeah, baby, yeah, baby
Just look at me, look at me
(State of shock)
You drive me
You got me, you got me
You got me in a state of shock
Look at that, look at me
Look at me, look at me
Look at me,
Ooooh, look at me
Michael & Freddy!
ROCK ON BOYS!
I LOOOOOOOVVVVEEE THIS VIDEO SO FREAKING MUCH!!! ðŸ˜ðŸ’“🙌
ABSOLUTE LEGENDS!!
The first song on the album (Victory) is Torture which is featured on my Halloween playlist! Go give it a listen!
Other honorable mentions from Victory:
Body
It's Marlon's time to SHINE! And he was GETTIN' AFTER IT! 😂 Marlon always did low-key copy Michael... I'm not saying that as a negative thing. You can tell Marlon really admired him and was inspired by him! 💛 It's so sweet!
TITO!! Tito gets even less love and recognition then Jackie! I guess that's what happens when you're helping make the music (he played the guitar). Another sweet, humble, older brother who was happy to be singing and playing with his bros! Shout out to the underdogs! Love the message of this song.
I better stop before I post the entire album! 😂 Definitely go check the whole thing out - it's a masterpiece!
