Grateful For Music Challenge Day 18

Song: Corner of the Sky
Artist: Jackson 5

I discovered this song last year. It was while I was attempting to listen to everything (I could find) by MJ. I was never 100% successful with that challenge, but I got pretty darn close! I remember thinking this song was catchy, but that was about it. It at least made my Jackson 5/Young MJ/The Jacksons playlist! Fast-forward to just this past summer when I happened to notice Ben Platt had recently covered this song. To make a long story short, I discovered this is a song from a musical called Pippin (which, the music was written by the same man who wrote the music for Wicked, Stephen Schwarz). Also, remember the song Morning Glow? I posted it two years ago during this challenge? Yeah, apparently that song is also from the musical Pippen! Guess the Jackson bros were big fans? I mean, I'm not complaining, I love both versions (Jackson 5/Michael & original) of both songs! And I'm thrilled to have all a part of my musical library!! While the original, Broadway version of the song has a very.... "musical" feel, the Jackson 5 gave it a makeover with lots of funk and soul (which I LOVE!). The ending, of the Jackson 5 version, is my favorite!! So good! And little Mike is just belting it out and it makes me 😄💙

Everything has its season
Everything has its time
Show me a reason
And I'll soon show you a rhyme
Cats sit on the window sill
Children sit in the show
Why do I feel
I don't fit in anywhere I go?

Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
I've got to be where my spirit can run free
Gotta find my corner of the sky

Every man has his daydreams
Every man has his goal
People like the way dreams have of sticking to the soul
Thunder comes after lightning
Nightingales have their song
And don't you see I want my life
To be something more than long

Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
I've got to be where my spirit can run free
Gotta find my corner of the sky
Of the sky

So many men seem desperate
'Cause they got something small
But I, I won't rest
Until I know I have it all
So don't ask where I'm goin'
But listen when I'm gone
Always you'll hear me singin'
Softly to the dawn

Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
I've got to be where my spirit can run free
Gotta find my corner of the sky
Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
(Fly, oh)
I've got to be where my spirit can run free
(Gotta find)
Gotta find my corner
(Gotta find)
Gotta find my corner, yes, I do
(Gotta find)
Gotta find my corner
(Gotta find)
Gotta find my corner of the sky

Here's the Broadway version (2013)
