Hanson Month 2019 Day 10
Song: When You're Gone
Artist: Hanson, Underneath (2004)
I've been listening to Underneath today (such a fantastic album!) and was reminded of how much I love and adore this song :) I was actually quite certain I had already posted it before (because that's how much I love it) but when I checked my handy, dandy HANSON page (a page where you can find every song and post that features Hanson and their music on my blog ;) You should show some Hanson love and go check it out!) it was not there! So, I obviously had to pay tribute to this gorgeous song in today's post. See, this is why doing these daily Hanson song posts throughout the month is such a great idea! It reminds me of songs that haven't been shared and brings them to light!
For me, this song gives a voice to the feelings of depression and anxiety that I live with on a daily basis. Which has been pretty bad again lately. Today has been one of my better days but it's been a long week.
The chorus, for me, is a cry to God. So often I feel extremely abandoned and forgotten in my pain. I find myself asking "God, where are you!? Why won't you help me!? Why won't you answer me!?" It's difficult. It's a process. Coming to learn how to effectively communicate with my Father in Heaven and then how to listen for and hear His answer. But, I know He hears me. He is there. He helps me and guides me every day, even when it's not obvious and I can't always see or understand how.
Well I just can't seem to pity
'Cause my heart's to numb to feel
And the smile does all the talking
Though the pain is all that's real
With the way that you keep screaming
I can hardly hear to think
And I feel the bridges burning
Underneath my feet
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Oh, how the road feels so long
But where do you go Ooh
When you're gone
I just want to stay dreaming
No I just don't want to wake
Why can't we keep on sailing
Across this emerald lake
My forehead is still bleeding
From the thorns I used to wear
And I'm left alone and beaten
For this cross I choose to bear
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Oh, how the road feels so long
But where do you go Ooh
When you're gone
Well I finally found what I'm looking for
Though the road's still long and the light is still far
But I finally found what I'm looking for
Well I finally found what I'm looking for
Though the road's still long and the light is still far
But I finally found what I'm looking for
Well the voices fall like timber
And the fear it pours like rain
And my heart is crushed to cinders
Underneath this kind of pain
Well there is no resolution
When the revolution's dead
So I'm left with no solution
For the voices in my head
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Where do you go, Oooh
When you're gone
Oh, how the road feels so long
But where do you go, Ooh
When you're gone
