On the Second Day of Christmas....
Song: Breath of Heaven
Artist: Amy Grant
Mary was "highly favoured of the Lord" (Luke 1:28) and "blessed among women" (Luke 1:42). Mary was chosen to be the mother of the Savior of all mankind. When I think of Mary, I think of someone who was humble, quiet and good. I think of someone who was thoughtful, gentle and brave. We'll continue to ponder the character of Mary in another post later. For today, refer to Luke 1:26-56.
I always think of this song when I think about the mother of Jesus Christ. I can't imagine how Mary must have felt when she first received the incredible news that she had been hand-chosen by the Lord to be the mother of the Savior. I'm sure she felt inadequate at times. This song captures those feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy so beautifully. But Mary was a woman of great faith and trust in the Lord her God as she answered her call by replying: Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. I love what Mary had to say about her responsibility as the mother to the Savior and as she expressed her incredibly unwavering faith in God when she was speaking with her cousin Elisabeth specifically: My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is might hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. (see Luke 1:39-55).
I have traveled many moonless nights
Cold and weary with a babe inside
And I wonder what I've done
Holy Father you have come
And chosen me now
To carry your son
I am waiting in a silent prayer
I am frightened by the load I bear
In a world as cold as stone
Must I walk this path alone
Be with me now
Be with me now
Breath of heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of heaven
Breath of heaven
Lighten my darkness
Pour over me your holiness
For you are holy
Breath of heaven
Do you wonder as you watch my face
If a wiser one should have had my place
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of your plan
Help me be strong
Help me be
Help me
Breath of heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of heaven
Breath of heaven
Lighten my darkness
Pour over me your holiness
For you are holy
Breath of heaven
Breath of heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of heaven
Breath of heaven
Lighten my darkness
Pour over me your holiness
For you are holy
Breath of heaven
