I have loved the music from the musical Wicked for years! I've still never had the opportunity to see an actual production, but hopefully I will someday. It's definitely on my bucket list! Because Wicked is based on the background and story of the Wicked Witch of the West (a character from one of my all-time favorite childhood movies, The Wizard of Oz) I find it completely and totally fitting to post some of the songs from Wicked on my "Halloween Playlist" this year! I can't believe I've never thought of them before! What's more Halloween than a witch!? Which ;) is the theme of my annual Halloween dessert tray this year.....stay tuned for pictures come Halloween night!
Defying Gravity has always been one of my favorite songs and one I would say is pretty much the stand out song from the entire musical! This is a beautiful, yet heart-breaking ballad by Elphaba (aka The Wicked Witch of the West) as she finally decides to embrace who she is (or more correctly, who everyone tells her she is) and officially becomes the Wicked Witch.

(spoken) Elphaba - why couldn't you have stayed calm for
once, instead of flying off the handle!

*Speaking of Wicked.....this year marks the 15th Anniversary of the musical (I can't believe it's that old!!). There will be a special on NBC called A Very Wicked Halloween: Celebrating 15 Years on Broadway hosted by the original Elphaba and Glinda aka Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth!! There will also be special, celebrity performances of the musical's most iconic songs. One of those "celebrities" will be PENTATONIX!! I can't WAIT to hear what they do!! They're arrangements are always OUTSTANDING!! I'm also just a really big fan and pretty much love everything that they do! I'm so excited to watch! Don't forget to tune in Monday, October 29th at 10/9 c on NBC!!
