Man in the Mirror
I'm just going to throw this card down on the table....I really like Michael Jackson! Now, I know he had his issues. He was accused of doing things that I really hope aren't true. I don't know all that much about him to be honest. But, he truly was an incredible talent. Especially in his early years. I have really come to love his music (mostly thanks to this awesome compilation). I have especially always really loved this song. The very first time I heard it was on American Idol (Kris Allen). The message is beautiful and very inspiring to me. Be the good you want to see in this world. Think outside of yourself. But for me, and especially as of late, I have connected with this song in a very real and personal way. Making an inner change. A change in my life. Moving on. Starting with me. I'm the only one who can do it. And I need to do it. For myself. The lyrics "I'm gonna make a change, for once in my life" have felt so personal for my current situation. Along with "It's gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference. Gonna make it right" I hope I can make the changes I so desperately need to make to be a happy person. To feel at peace in my life. Also, I think the whole idea of helping others is such an inspiring and good way to help yourself! Service really can lift your spirits and even change your life! Right on MJ!
I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It's Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .
As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin' My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer's Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man's Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya' Know
'Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That's Why I Want You To
Know
I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change)
(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,
Na Nah)
I've Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They're Not
Alone?
A Widow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody's Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya' See
Cause They Got No Place
To Be
That's Why I'm Starting With
Me
(Starting With Me!)
I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
(Ooh!)
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
(Ooh!)
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make A Change)
I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
(Ooh!)
I'm Asking Him To Change His
Ways
(Change His Ways-Ooh!)
And No Message Could've
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make That . . .
(Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make That . . .)
Change!
I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror,
(Man In The Mirror-Oh
Yeah!)
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
(Better Change!)
No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
(Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make The Change)
(You Gotta Get It Right, While
You Got The Time)
('Cause When You Close Your
Heart)
You Can't Close Your . . .Your
Mind! (Then You Close Your . . .
Mind!)
That Man, That Man, That
Man, That Man
With That Man In The Mirror
(Man In The Mirror, Oh Yeah!)
That Man, That Man, That Man
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
(Better Change!)
You Know . . .That Man
No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make A Change)
Hoo! Hoo! Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!
Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,
Na Nah
(Oh Yeah!)
Gonna Feel Real Good Now!
Yeah Yeah! Yeah Yeah!
Yeah Yeah!
Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,
Na Nah
(Ooooh . . .)
Oh No, No No . . .
I'm Gonna Make A Change
It's Gonna Feel Real Good!
Come On!
(Change . . .)
Just Lift Yourself
You Know
You've Got To Stop It.
Yourself!
(Yeah!-Make That Change!)
I've Got To Make That Change,
Today!
Hoo!
(Man In The Mirror)
You Got To
You Got To Not Let Yourself . . .
Brother . . .
Hoo!
(Yeah!-Make That Change!)
You Know-I've Got To Get
That Man, That Man . . .
(Man In The Mirror)
You've Got To
You've Got To Move! Come
On! Come On!
You Got To . . .
Stand Up! Stand Up!
Stand Up!
(Yeah-Make That Change)
Stand Up And Lift
Yourself, Now!
(Man In The Mirror)
Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!
Aaow!
(Yeah-Make That Change)
Gonna Make That Change . . .
Come On!
(Man In The Mirror)
You Know It!
You Know It!
You Know It!
You Know . . .
(Change . . .)
Make That Change
Video of the first time I ever heard this song. I think Kris Allen performed this beautifully!
Another thing about the King of Pop, Mr. MJ, is...... I feel like I can relate to him as a human being in a really strange way. I mean, he had something called a "Neverland Ranch"!? He loved the fictional character of Peter Pan!? He loved children!? (And I truly believe he loved children in a kind, loving way, not in a creepy, highly inappropriate way. I have seen videos of him with kids and his own children and it just makes me honestly think he truly loved them. I heard him say in an interview he loved kids because they were easy to talk to and don't judge you. I feel the same way! I love children as well!) Please don't ask me how or why I feel this need to defend him! This is all based on clips and videos I have recently watched on youtube! But I really feel like he was a good, genuine person!! Call me crazy, but I do! I really, really do! I feel like this love he had for children was seen in a negative eye by the press and by others. Why would some huge, superstar like Michael Jackson like kids so much? He was childlike himself (which is kind of weirdly sweet and sad to me) and I just totally get what he means about kids!! Also, his shyness, anxiety and lonliness that I have read he suffered from are extremley relateable to me. I suffer from those issues myself. I would never, ever turn to drugs for help but I do know how excruciating the pain is and why people do. Michael, I kind of hope I get to meet you someday. I don't know what you went through in your life, no one does. But I do know you are a child of an all-loving God who knows you and loves you and HE will judge you fairly and righteously. For now, I'm going to stand by what I've seen. He seemed nice and it makes me feel really bad for the way I've judged him for so many years, making ridiculous elementary school jokes about him ("what's black AND white? Michael Jackson!). He for sure wasn't perfect, but who is? And I mean with songs like "Heal the World" and "Man in the Mirror" among others, he couldn't have been all bad! He was an amazing talent and I am thourghly enjoyng his music right now. And his dance moves. They are insane!
