Michael and Me Part 2
***Click HERE to read Part 1. This is a blogpost series I am doing on several of the similarities and characteristics I personally share with Michael Jackson. NONE OF THIS IS MADE UP!!***
Because of my exciting news from yesterday's post, I found this to be extremely fitting :)
As you may have been able to tell, driving has been a huge issue for me. I have always felt incredibly ashamed and embarrassed about my lack of driving. I hate seeing really young kids getting their licence's and cruising around town while I sit here and go "Mom, can you take me to the store?" I shouldn't feel that way, but it just reminds me of what a pathetic loser I am and I get so upset/jealous/emotional/angry/embarrassed/ashamed. I have self-esteem and confidence issues. Welcome to the life of an anxiety sufferer.
I was interested if Michael ever got a driver's license (I like googling things like "I'm 23 and don't have a driver's license" because it makes me realize there are other people in this world who are like me. Is that weird? I don't care, it makes me feel better about myself). Being famous since the age of like 5, he technically didn't need one. He had chauffeur's and limousine driver's to get him where he needed to be. Also, being so famous, it's not like he could just jump in his car and go drive to the store whenever he felt like it. He'd be followed and mobbed! So sad.
So I googled when and if Michael Jackson ever got a driver's license and I came across this fantastic website and story shared from Michael's mother Katherine's book, My Family. I was still 22 at the time (this was only a couple of weeks ago) and I was ecstatic to read, AND I QUOTE: "He'd finally gotten his driver's license in 1981, at the age of twenty-three. Initially he didn't want to learn to drive."
THIS MAKES ME SOOOOOOOOO INSANELY HAPPY!!! :):):):):):D
I can't even describe the joy I feel reading this!! You have got to read the entire story HERE! It's amazing!!! I also love reading that Michael was a terrible driver, hahahaha!!! Maybe it's because I feel that I am also a terrible driver.
Proof! Haha
(around minute 1:25)
The reason why this makes me SO HAPPY should be pretty obvious. Something I have severely struggled with and HATED about myself (driving and my lack of doing it) has taken on a whole new meaning for me! The fact that someone I admire and respect so much didn't get his license until the exact same age I am today, while in the process of getting mine, is just so unbelievably special. :`) *tear* I just felt so connected to him (again). I doubt Michael was as scared as I am to drive, but the fact that he didn't even want to drive and then when he finally did it was at age twenty-three!!! MY AGE!! The age I will be getting my license!! For some reason this fills my heart and soul with extreme joy and happiness!!
A fitting song to go with today's topic in the Michael and Me series :) I read that he wrote this song after his own experience being pulled over by a cop (you can read about that in the link above). Fun song and GREAT video! I love it!
