My brother is gone. He has embarked on a two-year long church service mission. I'm not going to see my cute brother's face or talk and laugh with him for two whole years. For two whole years he's not going to be here teasing me, annoying me, making me laugh, talking with me, driving with me, nothing. He will be out serving God's children. I'm so proud of him for choosing to do this but at the same time my heart breaks to let him go. I've been crying every day since Sunday. Today, hard as it was, wasn't as bad as I had been dreading. The Lord comforted me in my time of sadness. His spirit testified to my hear that my brother was doing what was right and was where he needs to be at this time. I hope to follow his example and take courage, as he has, and move forward in faith. And trust.
This song is from an old 1977 cartoon adaptation of The Hobbit. And if you ask me, this version is way better than the re-make from a few years ago. But don't even get me started on that.
This song came to my mind as I watched my brother prepare himself to leave. I love the message. I love the melody. I love the singer's amazingly unique voice :) But truly. The greatest adventure is life. The journey of life is an adventure. It's different for all of us. I find that I relate with the character of Bilbo Baggins in many ways. In particular, his reluctance and fear of change and of doing something hard, difficult and unknown. But taking risks are what makes life exciting! It's what makes life worth living. The memories, the experiences, the lessons we learn through our trials and triumphs, our ups and downs.
So, here's to my brother! My brave little brother embarking on a new and daunting journey. I hope he embraces and each and every day. I hope he faces his fears and challenges with courage. I hope he will pick himself back up each time he falls. I hope he never gives up when he experiences failure and frustrations. I hope he sees the sunshine and hears the birds sing when things get difficult and dark. I hope he never forgets how much I love him. It is my hope and prayer that this becomes one of his many "great adventures" in life!
